Art of the Day # 299: Zootopia meets Studio Ghibli

If there’s one thing shared by the folks that created Zootopia and the fans of the film, it’s a love and respect for the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.   (Take a look at Matthias Lechner’s concept art piece above; notice anything familiar about the shape of those burrows?)

And so today, we proudly offer a collection Zootopia/Studio Ghibli crossover pics.

Enjoy, and don’t forget to show the original artists some love by clicking on the links

The iconic image from My Neighbor Totoro is, of course, the Bus Stop.  There are at least three Zootopian versions of this shot.

My Neighbor Nick.  Notice the alteration to the sign, a nice touch.

Paws down, Kiki’s Delivery Service is the most popular Ghibli film with Zootopis Fanart crowd.
(No surprise there; Judy would almost certainly find a kindred spirit in Kiki.)

Princess Mononoke was the first Miyazaki film, I ever saw in a theater and I haven’t missed any of them since.

Here’s a couple from The Cat Returns.  Interesting little role reversal between these two pics.

Two from Howl’s Moving Castle.  If Kiki is Judy’s Studio Ghibli soulmate, then Howl belongs to Nick

We close with two pics dedicated to the work that I consider to be Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece, Spirited Away, (winner of the 2002 Oscar for Best Animated Feature.)
This film film spirited me away when I saw it; I rank it with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. (The books, not the movies.)

Look closely at the dragon; is there something just a wee bit familiar about him?
