From the jumping-off point, we’re thrown into the swirling ocean that is Nick’s feelings. The aftermath of the Lynxley case, the battle on the weather wall, and his growing feelings for Judy–it ALL weighs on poor Nick Wilde. But he’s in too deep to back out now, and with help from Judy and Dr. Fuzzby, he’s gonna sink or swim. This has everything I love in a character study of Nick, as well as some surprises along the way. I can’t wait to see how the slow burn sizzles.

Following the Lynxley case, things were expected to return to normal. Nick Wilde had fully intended to leave behind their most recent adventure and rest before being dragged into the next adventure, which, knowing his luck, was just behind the corner.But he did not expect that what fate had in store would be a late-night call from Judy. Or the fact that, as much as he pretended not to care, things get to him. Or the scars on his paw, not being the only ones that needed to heal.
Facing trauma, both old and new. Experiencing things he never wished to. Dealing with feelings he fully recognizes but cannot act upon. For a fox, who for most of his life knew nothing but how to fend for himself, it feels like drowning.
But as his mother always said: Sink or swim.
