Hello again, fellow fans of Zootopia–and welcome to the latest Art of the Day Collection, brought to you by ZNN.
Our Featured Image for this week shows Nick and Judy in an old-school illustration from the medieval beast-epic, Reynard the Fox. We love the little detail of Judy thumping her paw.
In its way, Reynard is the indirect ancestor of Zootopia. Disney once planned to turn the tale into an animated feature–but found it to be so dark that they couldn’t make it work, even in a sanitized version. (As you may have guessed from the inset, Reynard was an extremely violent and dishonest fox, who also engaged in NSFW activities.) Eventually the story was reworked into Disney’s Robin Hood–the movie that helped inspire co-director Byron Howard to pursue a career in animation.
