Recently, our very own Andy Lagopus had an interview with Jared Bush. The man with many hats was a highly sought-after individual at the Festival, as many suspected he would have the most information to share on the upcoming sequel. Both the Laughing Place and the Variety were also able to score interviews with Mr. Bush. (Note from Andy- I think the Variety interviewer was directly before me). Each interview is interesting in its own right, with some interesting details on the challenges the animation team faced with adding Reptiles to the mix and how the studio looked back on previous iterations of snakes in animation.
There are also a lot of interesting details about how each of the main characters evolves while maintaining the core characteristics of their original personas. The additional interviews allow us to get into even greater detail about the process that went into making the film. Check them out here and here, and let us know in the comments below what stands out most to you
I’m kind of surprised that from everyone interviewing Jared, nobody asked if they thought about introduction wild-life to the world, or was it always a given that reptiles and birds are also just “people” in that universe? For us humans, whenever earning the love of a stay dog, or a sparrow eating seeds from our hands, I think our interactions with animals has so much magic to it. It would be sad if Zootopians wouldn’t be able to experience that.
