Volkswagen Releases a Zootopia 2-Themed Car Ad

Volkswagen- Sorry, Wolfswagen – is collaborating with Disney for a bit of mutual marketing! We saw a clip of some cheetahs driving a Wolfswagen car in the official Zoo lyric video (only for Clawhauser to accidentally direct them into a snow bank), so it’s not unexpected that Volkswagen would return the favor.

And return it they have! Volkswagen released a 30-second ad spot earlier this week showing off some unique versions of their ID.3, ID.4, and ID.7 electric cars, each with a skin based on zootopia- one with Zebra stripes like the ZPD cruisers, one with scales a la Gary, and one with red sparkles like Gazelle’s concert costume.

In a press release by Volkswagen, they clarified that these were not special editions of said cars, but were “custom animation”, which is a touch disappointing- I would prefer to be stuck in traffic behind a car with snake scales covering it over just a normal car. Keeps life interesting. The press release also pointed out that the collaboration, while obviously based on a pun, is also “a tongue-in-cheek homage to the brand’s headquarters in Wolfsburg.”

The “zootopifying” of famous brand’s advertisments both in the film and IRL was a part of the original Zootopia’s charm, so it’s great to see they’re doing the same strategy for the sequel. Can’t wait to see what other brands will be joining the pack!
