You heard that right folks! According to the data collected by r/boxoffice over on Reddit, Zootopia 2 has been doing huge numbers in pre-sales around the world, particularly in both North America and China. As of today, roughly $12.52 Million worth of pre-sale tickets have been sold in China alone, leading experts to estimate that China could bring in between $37-42M alone on opening day, $21-27M on Thursday, and then $200M+ over the weekend!
Meanwhile, Box Office Theory has been tracking the data for North America, and they’re telling a similar story: Between $102-122M for the first 3 days, comparable to Inside Out 2, leading to $150-200M for the first 5 days.
It’s also estimated that the rest of the world will bring in $125-150M on the first 3-5 days of opening, so we’re looking at between $525-675M globally in its opening week. That would put it in the same ballpark as Spider-Man: No Way Home ($600M) and Avengers: Infinity War ($640M), two of the top 3 biggest global openings of all time. And if it continues to do well and have crazy strong legs (like the first movie did), we could well see it enter the top 10 highest grossing films of all time.
Can it do it? We’ll have to see, but anticipation is already through the roof!
