Ultimate Thank-You Card Project UPDATES!

Hey everyone! Andy Lagopus here to let you know how the Second Ultimate Thank-You Card Project is going! Don’t mind that I’m now upside-down; you could say the project has taken a bit of a turn. We have some good news, and some bad news, so I’ll go back and forth between them.

First, some good news. You all have been absolutely incredible, and have sent in over 200 unique messages in less than a month! That’s huge! For reference, it took the better part of 2016 to reach that many the first time we did this, so to knock it out so quickly is a testament to all of you.

Next, a bit of bad news. Despite my best efforts, we will not be able to give a single thank-you card to each individual. Disney has undergone a lot of changes as a company since 2017, when we did the first project, and with two separate studio buildings (including the new one in Vancouver, BC) and many of their employees working remotely post-covid, they are no longer in a single location from which the cards can easily be distributed. It’s a logistical issue that unfortunately doesn’t seem fixable at this time.

But don’t worry! If we can’t make the project Ultimate, we’ll make the CARD Ultimate!

That’s right, we’ve decided to pivot to a new plan: rather than 1500+ small cards with one message each, we’ll make one GIANT card with EVERYONE’s messages, that can be proudly displayed at the Walt Disney Animation Studios!

My vision for how the card presentation might go. Note that neither I nor Civet, who would be joining me, look like this.

We’ve worked out a way to build this massive card (8 ft tall and 8 ft wide!), while remaining within the same budget we had for the original cards, so expect to see a video of us making and delivering it in the near future.

Speaking of budget, thank you all so much for your generosity thus far! We’ve raised $360 out of the estimated $1000 necessary to pull this off. For more details about the fundraiser, you can check out this post here, but the short version is we need your support to make this happen, and we’re well on our way to being able to do it. Thank you again, and keep the donations coming! We can do this!

The final bit of bad news is that we will, unfortunately, not be able to present the card to Disney by our 10th anniversary next week. A large portion of the staff who worked on Zootopia 2, including Byron Howard and Yvett Merino, are currently on a (very well-earned) break, and it wouldn’t be right to present a card to the people who worked on Zootopia 2… without the people who worked on Zootopia 2.

Don’t worry though, once they get back, we’ll work out the exact time and date we can deliver the card. And that gives us the chance to do this:

The Second Ultimate Thank-You Card’s deadline has officially been extended!

We’ll be continuing to collect messages, art, and donations for inclusion on the card for at least the next week and a half, with the final cutoff being one week before we present it to Disney. When will that be? I’ll let you know once I work it out. But it IS happening, don’t worry. We will also be including a “Credits” list on the back of the card, on the side opposite the art, with the names of all the donors and contributors who made this project happen!

So, what are you waiting for? Submit your thank-you message, email me your art, or make a donation to the fundraiser!

I’m Andy Lagopus, reminding you that despite challenges, things can work out. You just have to remember to, as always…

Try Everything!
