A Better Place, a fic where Nick and Judy risked it all, defying the forces that be who refused to let them take the risk, refused to give them a chance to have their child… And it all worked out. But sometimes, the bad guys have a point, and sometimes the happy ending is tainted and people are forced to deal with what’s left. A deeply emotional story, Soulfire writes both a broken Nick, dealing with his grief badly as he risks himself to protect the city and the family around him trying to hold on and help him through it exceptionally well. Tender, emotional, and painting a subtle but excellent portrait of characters both broken and holding themselves together, this is a fic well worth checking out whether you were a fan of the original or not.
