The process of making a movie is both very complex and a time-intensive project. Budgets vary but range anywhere from independent films not having any budget at all to massive studios putting out multi-million dollar projects. Movies are sometimes seen as risky because of the initial payout, but sometimes, if the movie hits right, then the return can be seen as worth the initial investment. Animated films are no different, and although they have different elements from a live-action film, they are nonetheless just as risky. Zootopia had hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of planning going into it. This goes from casting to art decisions, and ultimately to the animation itself. But one thing that some people are not aware of is that storyboarding is involved in these types of films. Recently, we had a big drop of released storyboards from the original film as well as the new one. Some of these are still-frame mock-ups, while others are fully animated. Both allow one to get an inside look at the process of how both led to the development of each film.
