If there’s one thing that country folk want, it’s to remind those city slickers that they get some of the action too, and this fic certainly packs its fair share in. While a ‘Gid and Sharla get caught up in spy business‘ fic is an interesting premise by itself, this story goes above and beyond, from high stakes car chases and some incredibly well written tense scenes, to matching believable Le-Carre style realistic spywork with John Wick style underworld organisations and worldbuilding. But the cherry on top has to be the truly excellent character work and writing, laying it on emotive and thick with Gideon Grey as it gives a deep dive into a troubled, once nasty, but now deeply sympathetic sweetheart version of the character.
Truly a fic full of surprises, and well worth a read.
