Welcome back Zootopians, it’s Shoot here, back from holiday and ready to resume fanfic update post duties. First off, many thanks to Professor BB for standing in. Second, we have a MAJOR milestone to announce!
836,146 words… An ALMIGHTY number, but not one that really stands out…
However, given that it comes from 300 Different Tales in the biggest one-shot collection in the fandom, I think there’s something for EVERYONE to celebrate. That’s right, Different Tails has reached 300 CHAPTERS!
VariableMammal has been one of the absolute institutions of this fandom, -indeed I remember latching on to the original ‘Partners’ series when THAT was coming out back in the time just after Z-1’s release (and this oneshot collection followed in the same year!). And while Variable lore like the adopted Squirrel son Larry came from there (with D-T very recently picking up a long dropped idea for a raccoon daughter and making up for all that lost time in fleshing her out), much more comes from the vast expanse that is Different Tales. Indeed, in some cases we’ve had characters first developed in here spun out into their entire new stories, then swing back in and return from there in a new form. That and, of course, heavy development of the Celestials, a whole pantheon of animal gods I have seen many an author borrow from. Variable absolutely also needs to be praised for being one of the absolute pioneers of the Z2 era, leaping on post sequel release with a huge number of chapters following the events, touching on characters old and new.
With a truly ludicrous array of different genres, though plenty of Wilde Hopps regulars, Different Tails really is a true literally feast. And after a near decade of going, it truly has been a privilege to have such a great source of fun, joy, angst and who knows what else always at our fingertips and ever updating with a laudable enthusiasm. Well done and thank you Variable, see ‘ya at 400!
-And, while Different Tails is certainly deserving of that praise, we have plenty of other updates too. The wasteland returns, regular as ever, with other fun pop ins from the Long Game, Empire of Snow, and Red Tails and Wilde Skies. -And the forgotten fanfic update of the last Dead Waltz chapter as well.
