I love all things behind the scenes. The process of making a movie, developing the characters, casting, directing, choosing your shoots, overcoming challenges, and all the fun in between is something I can not get enough of. Making a movie is difficult, and making an animated movie that is well-made is something that is a true challenge. And yet Jared and Byron seem to be able to pull it off time and time again. Recently, the two of them joined IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit, a podcast dedicated to movies and film, to discuss feature animation directing. They discussat length the pre-production, production, and post-production of making Zootopia, creating the characters, and casting those characters, as well as a lot more in this almost hour-long podcast.
