Welcome back from the weekend! Mondays are never easy, but they do bring us fresh box office numbers, and Zootopia 2 continues to deliver.
The film pulled in another $121 million worldwide over the weekend, officially pushing it past $500 million in China alone. For comparison, the original Zootopia earned $236 million in China across its entire theatrical run, meaning the sequel has already more than doubled the first film’s total in that market.
We landed just slightly under my projection for this weekend. I had estimated the film would reach $1.2 billion, and while it didn’t quite get there, $1.13 billion worldwide is still an outstanding result. This milestone also means Zootopia 2 has officially passed Lilo & Stitch (2025) at the global box office.
And importantly, the theatrical run isn’t over yet. The big question now is how well the film will perform throughout the holiday season. While a $2 billion finish is unlikely, it’s almost certain that Zootopia 2 will break into the top five highest-grossing animated films of all time by the end of its run. Regardless, the numbers it has already achieved are incredibly impressive.
As always, I’ll keep tracking the box office and sharing updates as they come in.
Good Afternoon, Good Evening, and Good Night!
