Just a few hours ago, Walt Disney Animation Studios confirmed that Zootopia 2 has crossed the ONE BILLION DOLLAR mark. This is an amazing milestone, as it is just a few dollars away from overtaking the first film’s entire box office run. The movie has only been out 17 days, making it approximately halfway through its theatrical run, depending on how long Disney decides to keep it in theaters. As it stands, it is the 15th highest-grossing animated movie and the 3rd highest-grossing movie of 2025.
Current projections land its final between $1.5b-$1.7b, which would solidify it in the top 5, and possibly even top 3, highest-grossing animated films ever, and potentially in the top 10 highest-grossing films ever. This weekend continues to see very little in the way of competition at the theater. Of course, with Avatar: Fire and Ash coming next weekend, and the SpongeBob movie debuting the week of Christmas, I would expect to see that start to push Zootopia down. However, with SpongeBob being the only real competition in the genre for family movies the week of Christmas and New Year’s, I personally think we will still see a decent box office run.
As always, stay tuned as we continue to keep our eye on the globe.
A paws-itively unbelievable milestone 🐾
