Art of the Day #328: Welcome to Wild Times!

Wild Times, Nick Wilde’s ill-fated amusement park from the Zistopia version of of the film. Zootopia co-director Byron Howard has said that when the decision was made to bag the ‘shock collar’ plot in favor of something more upbeat, having to leave Wild Times behind was one of his few regrets, albeit a very big one. (And with all the amazing concept art, it’s easy to see why.)

And so, today we present a collection of (mostly) concept pics and fanart dedicated to Wild Times amusement park, ‘Where a Pred Can Be a Pred’.

Enjoy, and don’t forget to show the original artists some love by clicking on the source links.

We open with a fewearly concept images of Wild Times.

That one on the upper-right side calls to mind a certain Pink Floyd album cover. Given the title of that piece (Animals) one has to wonder if perhaps it wasn’t intentional.  Note that the crane in the background is built to look like a giraffe.

This one looks like a late-’50s-era bowling alley.

And this one looks like something out of Disneyland’s Country Bear Jamboree attraction

We come now to a series of ‘before’ and ‘after’ pics of Wilde Times.

There’s Nick in the foreground, just left of that life preserver.

There he is again, just right of that yellow sign.  Note the lettering on the roof and the tree growing through it

This is probably the closest thing to what Wild Times would have looked like, had it not been dropped from the film.  Note the boat dock, just left of the entrance.

In the original concept, Wild Times had a secret entrance that allowed predators to remove their shock collars before accessing the park.  (More about that below.)

The way it worked was as follows:  First, you went inside the ‘clinic’ (center of this pic,) for a medical exam, one that required the removal of your shock collar, (the only way a predator could legally take it off.)  And then from there, you continued on to Wild Times by way of an underground tunnel.

Here we have a series of interior shots, showing Wild Times at various stages of the construction process.

And here are some the games and attractions featured inside the park.

Note that the ‘Cat*a*pult Cat’ is actually Figaro, the kitty from Disney’s Pinocchio.

We can only hope that Judy never finds out about this one…

Nick’s office inside the park.  Not exactly Mr. Tidy-Fox, is he?
