Story Updates 21 October 2017

Gotta hand it to Cimar, this “What If” collaboration project of his is really doing a great job encouraging creative scenarios in the fandom from people who may not have done any original writing before.  This time, we’ve got a story from LapisLucius42 called “I Got One”, wherein Nick and Judy take to the seas.  And we get a new ship in the form of Finnick x Kris (the otter who had a crush on Nick in Crime Files).

Updated Stories:
I Got One! Part of the “What If” Collaboration Project by LapisLucius42
Safe Paws by MidnightOpheliac
The Translation of Dawn Bellwether by Gabriel LaVedier

  1. ZNN stop posting Cimar's shitty content like it's front page news all the time. Give the actually good and in-depth stories like Firewatch a chance to shine on the front page of one of the updates or something for once. In Our Dreams is awesome too and also in this update yet instead you put the majority of the focus on that what if abomination. Get it together already.

    • Hey, that's a little much, isn't it? Sure, that story isn't exactly the most investing or creative one around, but there's no need to bash ZNN about it. You should go write a review expressing your thoughts instead.

    • No need to be rude. We normally choose a "top story" (aka the one with the cover art) based on how recently we featured that cover art, regardless of which story it is. Both Firewatch and In Our Dreams got that "Top Story" spot within the past month. We hadn't done a story update post with the cover of the What If Project before, so thats why we chose it for this time. Like TheCopyWriter said, if you have a problem with the story, you should leave a review on the story post itself.

And if you have a problem with it appearing in story update posts frequently… well, I hate to break it to you, but our story update posts are entirely based on which stories we have featured before have updated since the last time we did a story update post. Some stories update more frequently than others. We have no control over that.

    • Well said, Andy. I think you got the message across well enough as ever.

While you're here, can I ask when you think we might be able to expect another interview? I know that I've expressed my interests in having Upplet interviewed in the past, but I just gotta ask if that's a possibility. I'd really like to see that! Still, you guys at znn always do a good job with your work.

    • It's fine, I understand. This is a bit different from the Hundred Kisses collab cimar did- these stories could probably stand on their own and hold no relation to one another aside from the "what if" machine plot. Which is fine, in my opinion, but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing them developed further as independent stories.

As for the interviews, we're still working out the best way to go about them- semi-animated, podcast, or some sort of mix of the two. Either way, we're not going to just sit on it for months waiting like we did with the sprinkah interview. We'll need some more video and audio editors if we're going to get those up and running smoothly. So, if you know anyone who'd be willing to help, have them send me a message on Discord, or to [email protected] with the subject line "Editing help"! We'll probably be doing a general call for assistance soon, but since you've taken such an interest, your friends can have a first stab at it 😀

    • So that's a yes? I really really hope so. That guy's the one person I want to see interviewed more than anyone else! I can understand how difficult it must be to make them, but honestly, you could just use the same template as the previous ones (excluding Sprinkah's, of course): Still-shot images of your little avatar's moving around. You don't need to change much, or make it super complex. You can keep the whole background, with the only real change being the different avatars of the people being interviewed, and whatever is displayed on the background television, be it art or screenshots.

      So what do you think?

With a formula like that, you'd need minimal effort, since you're only changing two things, after all, not counting the whole aspect of syncing up the little Andy avatar with the new dialogue each time. It honestly doesn't sound all that bad, but hey, I don't know anything about animating, so I'll leave you with my suggestion. Whatever helps you guys figure out what needs to be done, and bring us the next interview soon! I can't wait to see what it'll be like, and I really hope you'll make it with Upplet!

    • Andy I agree. Some AUs are just too interesting to be contained in a few chapters worth 10K+ words like the first bonds and carrot farmers. Stories like those are worth at least 50K words.

  2. Please put Barbed Wire Dreams on the story list… I ignored it since it first came out then the most recent chapter came out (6 I think and it's really good and I regret not looking into it sooner. That author deserves some love too
